In conjunction with World Book Day on 23 April 2026, and as part of Sunway University’s ongoing Campus With A Conscience initiative, Sunway University and BookXcess have teamed up to turn the page on a meaningful new chapter of community engagement through a book donation initiative.
Following a special World Book Day edition of Sunway University’s popular Comfy Chats series, which featured Andrew Yap, Co-Founder of BookXcess and Big Bad Wolf Ventures, a total of 120 books were donated to the children of Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-Kanak Cacat Taman Megah. Carefully selected, the donated books are age-appropriate and include sensory-based elements designed to support children with varying learning needs, helping to create more inclusive and engaging reading experiences.
Professor Malissa Maria Mahmud, Dean of Sunway University School of Education said, “Initiatives like this demonstrate how education can extend beyond campus boundaries to make a tangible difference in the community. As a mission-driven, fifth-generation university, we remain committed to promoting lifelong learning and creating inclusive opportunities for all. By working closely with like-minded partners, we continue to champion initiatives that address real societal needs while nurturing a culture of empathy and service among our students and staff.”
The initiative also included meaningful engagement around the importance of literacy and inclusive education, highlighting how access to reading materials can play a role in supporting emotional development, communication skills, and lifelong learning among children with diverse abilities. It further reflects the shared commitment of both organisations to ensuring that education and knowledge are accessible beyond traditional learning spaces.
“This collaboration reflects a shared vision between Sunway University and BookXcess to make reading more accessible and inclusive. At BookXcess, we have always believed in the power of books to change lives, shape perspectives, and connect people together. It is also part of our ongoing mission to empower communities through books and the knowledge that they provide, and we hope these books will spark curiosity, nurture imagination, and ultimately open up new possibilities for the children at the centre,” Andrew Yap shared.
Expressing appreciation for the initiative, Mr M. Sityviknendraa of Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-Kanak Cacat Taman Megah said, “We are truly grateful for the support from Sunway University’s Campus With A Conscience initiative and BookXcess. Contributions like these not only provide our children with valuable learning resources, but also remind them that they are seen, supported, and included. It means a great deal to our centre and the children we care for.”
More than a simple act of giving, the book donation represents a shared commitment to building a more inclusive and compassionate society. It serves as a reminder that small actions, when guided by purpose, can create lasting impact, especially when they open doors for children to imagine, learn, and grow in environments where they feel seen and supported.
