About Edith Cowan University (ECU)

Founded in 1982, Edith Cowan University (ECU) is an Australian public university located in Perth, Western Australia, and was named after the first woman to be elected to an Australian Parliament, Edith Cowan. Today, ECU has approximately 30,000 students at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including approximately 6,000 are international students coming from more than 100 countries around the world.

The University is organised into eight teaching schools, with ongoing research programs in each school:

Accommodation

ECU Village

On-campus accommodation at all three ECU campuses are operated by student accommodation company Campus Living Villages (CLV). All apartments are fully furnished with private bedrooms, large kitchens and spacious lounge areas, and are located on-campus and close to all campus facilities. Some other features include:

  • Swipe card-operated laundries
  • High speed internet access

Local shops and sport and recreation facilities can also be found within walking distance, or are easily accessible by public transport.

Rental Accommodation

Alternatively, students can choose to rent an apartment, townhouse or house on their own or with fellow students outside of campus. The ECU Village operates a referral service to assist students in seeking off-campus accommodation, hosting an online list of off-campus accommodation options close to each campus.

Homestay

Students also have the option to live in a private home with an Australian family. Homestay arrangements can be made through the Australian Homestay Network.

Campus

ECU has two metropolitan campuses and one regional campus around the city of Perth. All campuses can be accessed conveniently via public transport and feature up-to-date facilities, including wireless internet, 24-hour access to computer labs, libraries with open study spaces outside office hours, and a safe environment for study and living.

Joondalup Campus

Located 25km from the Perth CBD, this campus is close to both the Mitchell Freeway and the Joondalup train line and is easily accessible by car, train, bus and bike. As the University's headquarters, Joondalup Campus creates a supportive learning environment by providing a variety of on-campus services and facilities, such as a multi-million dollar sport and fitness centre, an award-winning library and student hub, a microbrewery, an outdoor cinema for the summer months and on-campus accommodation. 

Courses here are offered in arts, commerce, communications, engineering, law, medical and health sciences, natural sciences, nursing, computing and security, sports science, psychology, social science and teacher education.

Mount Lawley Campus

This campus is home to the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, one of Australia's most successful and well known arts training institutions. Located at the intersection of Alexander Drive and Central Avenue, the campus is only minutes from Perth CBD and the Beaufort Street cafe strip. Students at Mount Lawley Campus can benefit from extensive teaching resources, first-rate IT and performing arts facilities, a sport and fitness centre, and a new communications and arts hub, complete with infrastructure and equipment for design, visual arts, fashion, broadcasting, animation, photomedia, motion capture and film..

South West Campus 

Located less than 200km south of Perth, ECU's South West Campus in Bunbury is the largest university campus outside the metropolitan area and is easily accessible by car and local Bunbury transit services. The campus features modern facilities and services - namely a café, mini-gym, multi-purpose sports courts, two nursing demonstration wards, science laboratories and a library with 24-hour access to a computer lab - and is co-located with the South West Regional College of TAFE, Manea Senior College and two hospitals.

Courses here are offered in arts, commerce, health sciences, nursing, social work and teacher education.
